An old fashioned firm rub down with a towel after a shower or bath can often be enough to exfoliate your skin well but for the more stubborn areas a scrub ball or loufa can do the trick.

Be careful about what you put on your skin aftwer exfoliating. Some creams can act as a barrier to the sunspray reducing its effects or even making your tan appear patchy.

Winter is now officially here and with it comes cold winds, rain, and less sunlight, and many of us will now also have the heating on. This is a concoction for dry flaky and itchy skin. Which is not a great foundation for a tan.
Eczema, psoriasis, and xerosis are worse in the winter when the humidity is low. Cold air has less moisture in it than warm air, and heavier clothing and indoor heating will make dry skin worse.
People often forget that sun exposure is a constant issue, even in winter. Outdoor activities, can still expose your skin to harmful rays, both direct from the sun on your skin, and indirect, from sun reflected onto your skin by the rain, ice and snow. Sunscreen and proper clothing will help you to avoid frostbite, windburn and sunburn.

Here are some tips for flawless winter skin:

Minimize baths and showers to 5 minutes, with lukewarm water not hot water.

Use a mild soap with added moisturisers and avoid antibacterial, deodorant, and perfumed soaps.

Moisturise after use expose your skin to any moisture, after showers, baths or even just washing your hands, to lock in moisture and avoid drying out. Try to use a moisturiser with an SPF of at least 15.

Cover your hands and feet in a thick moisturiser before bed and wear cotton gloves and socks for an extra pampering.

Apply a moisturising face mask at night once a week at night.

Use a humidifier to fill the dry air in your home or work environment with moisture, or place a bowl of hot water on a radiator for it to evaporate into the air.

Avoid using fabric softener sheets, even fragrance-free sheets, in your tumble dryer as the chemicals don’t rinse out properly and can lead to irritation.

Remember to use a lip balm regularly also with added SPF to prevent chapping. Un-flavoured and un perfumed lip balms are better.

Exfoliate your entire body from head to toe once a week to eliminate all the dry skin you are hiding under those layers of clothes.
